Baby Sleep Tips
Almost every mom of newborn baby has to deal with numerous needs of the baby, which include night-time care. Therefore, new parents have to go through a lot of sleepless nights. However, it is a very important mission of parents to establish good and healthy sleeping habits of the children since their early ages. This way it is possible to ensure healthy sleep routine of the children, as well as prevent possible problems like sleep disorders, insomnia, etc. Below, there are some easy tips, which can assist you in getting baby to sleep through the night.
1. Be sure that your baby sleeps in a comfortable and familiar environment. Be sure that your baby sleeps in a comfortable soft bed which is large enough. Also, be sure that his clothes are comfortable and not too tight. Be sure that he lays down in a comfortable position and can breathe easily. Optimal room temperature for good and comfortable sleep is between 65 and 70F. Close the curtains, use dimmers and be sure that the room is dark when the baby sleeps.
2. Establish some bedtime routine for your baby to facilitate his transition from being awake to going to sleep. For example, cradle your baby and talk gently to him for 15-20 minutes before going to sleep to aid him to fall asleep fast. Or, treat your baby with a gentle bedtime massage: according to the latest researches, babies fall asleep much faster after a 15-minute of bedtime manual treatment.
3. Use “white noise”. Despite a common belief that the best place to sleep is a totally silent place, it was recently discovered that babies sleep much better in the environment with some “white noise”. Your baby can be exposed to some very quite background sounds or noises, like a sound of dishwasher, low-volume radio chat, low-volume calm music and so on.
4. Use certain objects and sounds that your baby can associate with sleeping. Specialists recommend using a special toy placed next to the baby to comfort sleep. Also, it is very helpful to use a special “baby sleep CD” (you can buy one or create some mp3 collection of calm music yourself). These tactics are very beneficial in many ways: in particular, you can use the same toys and music as an effective sleep aid when your baby has to sleep in some unfamiliar environment.
5. Intensify your daytime feeding routine. If your baby wakes up frequently at night for feedings, you can try feeding him more during the daytime. For example, in the daytime, try to feed your baby every three hours. This way, your little one will receive more food and develop a tendency to associate feeding with daytime.
6. Try not to wake up your baby for changing a diaper at night. If your baby has no extra-sensitive skin and can sleep all night without changing the diaper, you can skip the duty of changing the diaper, which is not soaked or soiled.
7. If you are breastfeeding your baby, it is highly recomended to control your caffein consumption in order to ensure better night sleep of your baby.
